At Sterimedix, we have a simple mission: helping people to regain or protect their vision, so they can see the world more clearly and live life fully.
We’ve been manufacturing single-use ophthalmic devices since 1989, making a meaningful difference in eye surgeries for over 35 years. We understand how much your sight can impact your day-to-day life and overall well-being, which is why we're so dedicated to creating safe, reliable, and precise tools to help surgeons deliver the best possible outcomes for their patients.
Creating safe, reliable, and precise tools to help surgeons deliver the best possible outcomes for their patients.
Our business culture rests on six key values: accountability, agility, courage, integrity, teamwork, and results.
We’ve built a dedicated team that shares our vision of delivering high quality products to improve patients’ lives.
Back in 1989, we started out in a small office in Alcester. By 1990, our first delivery of Sterimedix-branded ophthalmic cannulas was on its way to a UK distributor.
In 1993, we began manufacturing in-house, acquiring a new commercial building in Redditch, and installing a dedicated cleanroom.
We achieved our first quality management certification to BS9001 and MDD 93/42/EEC in 1994 and had further upgraded to the BS ISO 13485 and MDD 93/42/EEC certifications by 1997.
In 2001, we expanded by renting an adjoining building which helped us invest in new machinery and processes. In 2003, we launched mono-manual Irrigation Aspiration Handpieces, adding more variety to our product line.
By 2006, we had a fully computerised Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to boost operational efficiency. Our growth led us to rent more office space in 2007, and in 2010, we moved to a bigger 1000m² facility on Madeley Road in Redditch, marking a major milestone in our journey.
In 2012, we expanded our product range by introducing aesthetic cannulas. Our growth continued in 2013 when we rented an extra 500m² at our Madeley Road location for goods dispatch and manufacturing.
In 2014, we were acquired by Synergetics and fully integrated into Bausch Health by 2016. That year, we celebrated the production of our one-millionth aesthetic cannula. In 2019, we moved to the spacious 36,000 ft² facility on Thornhill Road in Redditch that we occupy today and marked our 30th anniversary.
By 2021, we’d produced 6.9 million aesthetic cannulas and 108 million ophthalmic devices since 2006. Fast forward to 2024, and we crossed the 180 million-mark for cannulas! These numbers really show how much we’ve grown since our foundation, and how we’re continuing to develop and succeed today.
We’re dedicated to delivering high-value, meaningful products and services that resonate with patients and prescribers. Bringing value to our stakeholders while delivering safe and effective products is at the heart of everything we do.
